PM Vishwakarma Yojana
Free skill training, modern toolkits, and collateral-free loans up to ₹3 lakh for traditional artisans and craftspeople across 18 trades
📖What is PM Vishwakarma Yojana?
PM Vishwakarma Yojana is a central government scheme launched on 17 September 2023 (Vishwakarma Jayanti) with a total outlay of ₹13,000 crore over 5 years (2023-2028). It provides end-to-end support to traditional artisans and craftspeople working with their hands and tools — including carpenters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, potters, weavers, sculptors, cobblers, tailors, and 10 other identified trades.
The scheme has three components: (1) Skill training — free 5-15 day training program with a daily stipend of ₹500, (2) Toolkit incentive — up to ₹15,000 grant to buy modern tools, and (3) Credit support — collateral-free loan of up to ₹1 lakh (first tranche) and up to ₹2 lakh additional (second tranche) at a subsidized interest rate of 5% (government pays 8% interest subvention on the bank rate of 13%).
The 18 eligible trades are: Carpenter, Boat Maker, Armourer, Blacksmith, Hammer and Tool Kit Maker, Locksmith, Goldsmith, Potter, Sculptor/Stone Carver, Cobbler/Shoemaker, Mason/Bricklayer, Basket/Mat/Broom Maker, Doll & Toy Maker (traditional), Barber, Garland Maker, Washerman, Tailor, and Fishing Net Maker.
To be eligible, the artisan must be working in one of these 18 trades with their hands and tools as a self-employed profession. The person should be at least 18 years old and should not have availed similar benefits under other central/state schemes in the last 5 years. Registration is done through the PM Vishwakarma portal (pmvishwakarma.gov.in) with verification by the Gram Panchayat/ULB.
✅Eligibility
🎁Complete Benefits Package
Stage 1 — Recognition: After registration and verification, you receive a PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card. This is your official recognition as a Vishwakarma artisan — useful for accessing all scheme benefits and as an identity document.
Stage 2 — Skill Training: Free training program of 5-15 days (basic or advanced) at a government-identified training center. You receive ₹500/day as stipend during training. The training focuses on modern techniques, quality improvement, design upgradation, and digital skills.
Stage 3 — Toolkit Incentive: After completing training, you receive up to ₹15,000 as a one-time grant (not loan) to purchase modern tools relevant to your trade. This amount is credited directly to your bank account. For example: a carpenter can buy power tools, a tailor can buy an advanced sewing machine.
Stage 4 — Credit Support (First Tranche): Apply for a collateral-free loan of up to ₹1 lakh at an effective interest rate of 5% (bank charges ~13% but government provides 8% interest subvention). The loan is for 18-month tenure. Repayment through EMIs.
Stage 5 — Credit Support (Second Tranche): After successfully repaying the first loan, apply for an additional loan of up to ₹2 lakh at the same subsidized 5% rate. This is for business expansion. Total credit available = ₹3 lakh.
Additional Benefits: Digital transaction training and incentive of ₹1 per UPI transaction (up to 100 transactions/month). Marketing support through quality certification, branding, and e-commerce onboarding (GeM, Amazon Saheli, Flipkart Samarth, etc.).
