📖What is PMKVY — Skill India Free Training & Certification?

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is India's flagship skill training scheme under the Skill India Mission. It provides free short-term training (200-600 hours) in over 200 trades and job roles, along with government-recognized certification, a training stipend, and placement assistance. The scheme is now in its 4th phase (PMKVY 4.0).

Training is provided at PMKVY Training Centers (TCs) and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs) spread across every district in India. Courses cover sectors like IT-ITeS, retail, hospitality, healthcare, construction, automotive, beauty & wellness, agriculture, electronics, and many more.

After completing training and passing the assessment, candidates receive a National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) aligned certificate — recognized by employers across India. Many training centers also provide placement assistance, connecting graduates with relevant employers.

PMKVY also has a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) component — if you already have skills through informal work experience (like a carpenter or tailor who learned on the job), you can get your existing skills assessed and certified without going through full training.
